PROFILE
Maritime Hydroseed, based in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, has made a name for itself in the Hydroseeding and erosion control marketplaces since operations began back in 1973. William (Bill) Thomson began working with Hydroseeding equipment that was initially designed to apply a grass making slurry to bare soil. Over the years, the industry equipment, materials and additives have evolved to better meet the ever-changing needs of the client and job site conditions.
Maritime Hydroseed is a trusted contractor that supplies Hydroseed mixes to create successful germination of healthy turf grass and root development enabling sustained growth. Our customized Hydroseeding and erosion control applications are applied as specified by the Province of New Brunswick and subject to inspection by the Departments of Transportation and Environment.
Over the past 18 years, we have Hydroseeded the TransCanada Highway throughout New Brunswick, working together with the Province of NB, MRDC, the Brunway Group and others. We have also worked on numerous residential, commercial and industrial projects around Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland).
Maritime Hydroseed has evolved into an industry applicator for erosion control, mine reclamation, soil and slope stabilization, dust control, landfill cover, coastal reclamation, land and subdivision development.
Bill continues to take an active role in developing seed mixes to meet the needs and specifications of his many clients. During his 35 years in the Hydroseeding business, Bill has found it accommodating and necessary to mix and develop various seed blends for site specific soil conditions to ensure successful applications resulting in sustained growth.
Advancements in mulch materials (Bonded Fiber Matrix) and additives (geobinders, tackifiers, limes) used in Hydroseeding applications have made “sustained growth” achievable on very difficult and challenging terrain (i.e., steep slopes, embankments, watercourses) thus ensuring the establishment of long-term, healthy turf grass and root development.
Maritime Hydroseed operates FINN and BOWIE equipment, both top notch Hydroseeding application machines on the market. These machines are known for their superior construction, labour saving capabilities, and unmatched quality and durability.
Maritime Hydroseed operates several Hydroseeding machines with tank capacities ranging from 1,000 gallons to 3,000 gallons. We also operate Finn B-260 Straw Blowers which can place a uniform layer of straw onto the soil, slope or other area in a fraction of time it takes to apply by hand, and eliminate the risk of injury to workers on very difficult and challenging terrain. There’s no more efficient way to ensure soil moisture retention and protect against erosion damage to freshly hydroseeded areas.
We can deploy multiple crews depending on the project size and time frame required for completion. Hydroseeding is definitely the most economical choice for establishing the growing results desired without the expense, time consumption, material costs or installation demands of sodding or traditional hand seeding.
Maritime Hydroseed also produces quality screened topsoil and natural bark mulches. We offer delivery and pickup services for both small and large volumes. Our screening and processing operation is mobile and can therefore be moved to a clients’ job site for land clearing, subdivision and road development, compost processing, etc. We have our own trommel screener, tub grinder, dump trucks, front-end loaders and excavators for such projects.
As we look to the future, Maritime Hydroseed will continue to offer the same quality workmanship, personalized service and outstanding dedication.
